Smart Battery Management Systems

BSB has developed ECO Plus smart battery management system based on its rich experience and understanding in battery manufacturing, technology, and end application. Based on BSB’s software platform (big data analysis), BSB provides users with efficient smart battery management solution integrated with advanced technologies such as AI, Internet, and IoT.

In applications such data centers, utility power transmission substations, or telecom BTS base stations, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) must be used for both key equipment and emergency equipment to ensure continuous power supply, and batteries are the only guarantee to ensure uninterruptible power supply after main grid power is off.

In the first stage, batteries can only be passively maintained. This is because the battery itself is a 'black box' product wrapped in a sealed container. We have to rely on the UPS to indicate the battery bank voltage. Most maintenance work relies on manual inspection. Only when a system failure occurs did we realize that there was a problem with some batteries. The 'unknown' nature of the battery makes us full of anxiety.

In the second stage, batteries can be actively monitored. Through the online inspection instruments, we can monitor the voltage, current, internal resistance, temperature, SOC, SOH, and other performance parameters of the battery. The health status of the battery can be judged by the parameters, and thus the 'knowable' nature of the battery can be basically achieved. However, the monitored data is not comprehensive enough, the fault cannot be accurately located, and professional guidance maintenance advice cannot be provided etc. Although the battery maintenance regulations are strictly enforced, serious accidents such as thermal runaway, liquid leakage, transient interruption, and fire still may occur.

Now, we need to make it further improved by taking comprehensive battery monitoring measures such as monitoring of loose busbar connection, acid leakage, weak battery block, thermal runaway etc. Together with the expert system, we can minimize the risk of battery failure.

Weak Unit Locating

•Real time monitoring of battery voltage, current, internal resistance, temperature, accurately identify the weaker cell.

•ECO Plus monitor the open circuit voltage of the battery, combined with SOC, SOH monitoring and calculation, prediction is more accurate.

•Timely alarm and indicate the weaker cell, ensure the performance and life of the battery.

Battery Connection Status Monitoring

If the connection loose, the connect interface will cause heat during charge/discharge of battery. Acquisition module will collect the temperature and resistance then judging if it loose or not base on multiple dimension analysis of SoC, current, temperature, internal resistance etc.

Acid Leakage Monitoring

In UPS or HVDC, the battery rack is grounded while the battery bank is suspended from the ground. The leakage current of the positive and negative busbars is monitored in real time. When the leakage current of the battery exceeds the threshold, an alarm is issued to check for hidden dangers, preventing fires from happening.

Trouble-shooting Guidance Expert System

Comprehensively analyze relevant parameters and status for each alarm of battery, so as to make a preliminary judgment on the cause of failure. Then it provides maintenance guidance and advice according to the management matrix, facilitating maintenance.

Thermal Run-away Management & Protection

Based on monitoring of voltage, internal resistance, and temperature and comprehensive SOC analysis, ECO Plus accurately judges a thermal runaway in the early stage and gives an alarm, thus preventing fires from happening.
